Blue seas, virgin islands and colonial past

About Andaman Tourism

Filled with turquoise blue water beaches and some history, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a little slice of paradise about 1,400 km off the east coast of mainland India. Port Blair, the capital of this union territory, has a major airport and seaport that is connected to the rest of the country and with various tourist islands through a number of daily ferries. Havelock and Neil Islands are popular among tourists for their white sandy beaches and excellent diving options.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands comprise 572 islands, of which only 37 are inhabited, and few are open to tourists. Havelock Island is one of the largest and most popular islands of all the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Travelers usually enter via flight or ship from Port Blair and spend several nights at Havelock and Neil islands which offer some of the best resorts.

On the south coast of Havelock Island lies the alluring Radhanagar Beach, while the azure beauty of Vijayanagar Beach lies on the east side of the island. Perhaps the loveliest feature of Neil Island is its three sandy beaches, namely Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach and Laxmanpur Beach.

Port Blair is generally used as a base city to catch ferries to nearby islands. However, tourists also spend a day or two here to explore the city and the surrounding beaches. People also take day trips from Port Blair to Ross Island and North Bay Island or to Baratang and Jolly Boy Island.
