Day 1 – Bagdogra – Phuentsholing
Welcome on arrival pick up and drive 170 kilometres and a 4-5 hours drive from Bagdogra – Phuentsholling is on the Indian and Bhutan border- The Indian side is called Jaigaon and the Bhutanese side is called Phuentsholing. Bhutan-Indian Nationals don t require a visa or passport to visit the rest of Bhutan but an identity document like an election commission I.D card is required- A permit is not required for visiting Phuentsholling only but other parts of Bhutan-Check into the hotel- In the evening one can go about in auto-rickshaw exploring the place Overnight stay in Phuentsholling.
Day 2 – Phuentsholing – Thimphu
Morning breakfast-Passing through the beautiful landscape we proceed to Thimphu is 172 kilometres and 6 hours drive from Phuentsholling-Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan is a beautiful valley with a mixture of modern facilities and culture-Thimphu Valley has sustainably cradled its culture and tradition since 1216-The valley is surrounded by hills. En route, you can visit the Bhutan Royal Palace which provides outstanding view-Adventure sports like hiking, trekking, and river rafting and -Check into Hotel. After check-in and visit the Memorial Chorten built-in memory of the third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who was called the Father of modern Bhutan, Trashichhoedzong is also called the fortress of the glorious religion-The dzong houses the main secretariat building and is the throne of His Majesty, King Of Bhutan-During the summer months His Holiness, Je Khenpo visits the dzong. You can also visit Changangkha Lhakhang (If Time permit)Please note it is not possible to cover all the sites mentioned above in a single day-Back to Hotel-In the evening local markets like handicraft shops, weekend market(Saturdays and Sundays), Craft Bazaar(Tuesday and Wednesday) can be visited-Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Day 3 – Thimphu – Paro
After breakfast drive to Paro en route and visit Simtokha Dzong. This dzong, built-in 1627 is the oldest in Bhutan. It now houses the Institute for Language and Culture Studies. Afternoon in Paro, visit Ta Dzong, once a watchtower, built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century, Ta Dzong was inaugurated as Bhutan s National Museum in 1968 Afterward, walk down a hillside trail to visit Rinpung Dzong. Built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, the Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Day 4 – Paro Local
After breakfast drives up the valley to view the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. It was from here that the Bhutanese repelled several invading Tibetan armies during the 17th century. Then take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, the most famous of Bhutanese monasteries. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery hence it is called Tigers Nest. The excursion to the monastery takes about 5 hours for a round trip. When they return to Paro town visits en route Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom. Day 5 – Paro – Phuentsholing
Early morning breakfast – Transfer from Paro to Jaigaon Phuentsholling – A drive of nearly 180 kilometres, a drive of approximately 6 hours – After breakfast transfer to Phuentsholing, on the way take a short stop at Chuzom, the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers with three different styles of stupas adorn this confluence. Drive further through Chapcha and later take a glimpse of the famous Chukha Dam and the magnificent Vince waterfall before Gedu town Arrive in Phuenthsoling by evening and check into the hotel, Evening free to stroll around the area, Night stays at a hotel in Phuentsholing.
Day 6 – Phuentsholing – Bagdogra or NJP
Morning breakfast – After breakfast transfer to Siliguri for your onward journey back home. Your arrival at NJP Railway Station will mark the end of the tour. The tour concludes with everlasting memories of North East India & Bhutan.
