Itinerary

Day 1 – Paro: Arrival, check-in at the hotel and sightseeing

When you set foot on the land of Paro, you will be received and greeted warmly by the representative of the tour agent. They will escort you to the hotel in accordance with your itinerary. This is a 3-star hotel. On your arrival at the hotel, complete the check-in formalities and brace yourself to enjoy Paro Valley and the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. Paro Valley is well known for its transfixing beauty and widely spread rice fields. Hereafter, you move on to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. This used to be a Buddhist monastery of which only ruins remain today. This place was constructed during the years 1644-1649 to symbolize the victory of Bhutan over Tibetan-Mongol armies. If you are lucky to visit the place on a cloudless day then you will be able to view Bhutan’s holy peak, Mt. Jumolhari.

Day 2 – Paro: explore the Tiger’s Nest

Get up in the morning, enjoy your breakfast and embark on the trek to the Tiger’s Nest. Trekking to the site takes around 2 hours. This sacred Buddhist site is also called Paro Taktsang or Takhtsang Goemba. The site is built around the cave where Guru Rinpoche flew to on a tigress’ back and meditated here for 3 days. After a hatful of fun at this place, get back to your hotel and hit the sack to shed the weariness of the day.

The monastery does not allow taking pictures. So it is advised to put the photographer in you, on a leash.

Day 3 – Chele La Pass: The highest motorway in Bhutan

On your Paro 3 night 4 day package, you get to enjoy the tour to Chela La Pass. After your breakfast, embark on the tour. The Chela La Pass is at an elevation of 3988 meters making this the highest motorable pass in Bhutan. This is about an hour’s drive through thickly-forested roads which in itself is an excellent botanical splendour. Mt Jumolhari, Jichu Drake and other adjoining peaks can be viewed from this pass.

In the afternoon, enjoy a mesmerising drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress where Bhutanese warriors fought invaders many centuries ago. En route to the Dzong, you can get an amazing view of the snowy dome of Chomolhari, the ‘mountain of the goddess’.

You also get to visit Kyichu Lhakhang, which was built in the 7th century and happens to be one of the 108 temples that were built in the Himalayas by the Tibetan King, Songtsen Gampo
